This is a summary of all my gigs to date, give or take a few3 November 2006 - Resonance FM live session on Scaledown Radio
Played 4 songs live, talked with Mark and Andy, played some songs from my album. Lovely way to spend a Friday afternoon.28 Oct 2006 - The Lion, Stoke Newington
Schlaloween night with the lovely Schla La La's. I went as Colonel Mustard (it was a Cluedo themed night). I was pretty rock'n'roll. Got told I have the spirit of Joe Meek's drummer.18 Oct 2006 - Passing Clouds, Dalston.
Tucked away in the scary backstreets of Dalston, very late night gig, I didn't play till about 2am. I also joined Ragnagrok with my flute and a lot of delay. Lots of lovely people there and cutting edge music.14 Oct 2006 - Cambridge. Played for my friend Matt's wedding. Not many people choose to have a theremin/keytar spot in the middle of their wedding reception.
23 Sept 2006- Bethnal Greet Working Men's Club
A variety night, packed out Saturday at the BGWMC. Bit nervous, went quite well.22 Sept 2006 - Wired Women at Whitechapel Art Gallery
A bit strange doing a gig to a seated audience in the cinema (sorry - giving a performance in the auditorium as the gallery staff corrected me when I arrived). Wired Women is still great, lovely vibe upstairs in the bar.13 Sept 2006 - Resonance FM aerial benefit gig at The Roundhouse. Oort (Ken Hollings, Mark Pilkington, Zali Krishna, Richard Guest and myself) played Psychedelic-space-ambient-improv music accompanying a reading about meteorite pananoia. Chaos, chin strokers and hecklers. The Roundhouse is gorgeous.
11 July - Hungamuna at Bethnal Green Working Men's Club
This night is fun - you arrive and make whatever you fancy out of an amazing array of crafty things, drink reasonably priced beer, eat scones and listen to live music. It's mostly about craft rather than music, so a bit of a background gig. And my mum and dad came to hear me for the 1st time!7 July - SONGBIRD at Bomonti Russian Club, Dalston
Wow it was really great to be gigging again after a bit of a rest. Lots of great people were there. I especially enjoyed playing theremin through all my new effects pedals, dancing to Geordie rap and meeting some of my myspace (sorry, myspace myspace myspace... but I have to say I have met some LOVELY people through myspace) friends. The Bomonti is a cool bonkers place too, lots of Christmas lights.18 May - Spektakle Magazine presented MY DOCUMENTS at The Asylum Club, London
Alexander's Festival Hall and Rhodri Marsden did super sets to a backdrop of the Twin Towers. Lots of friends came, I debuted my dodgy Dr Distorto pedal, it was a wonderful night, a man parachuted down during my last song which was an amazing and spectacular surprise.14 April - TRIPLANETARY plays Ryans Bar, Stoke Newington
A landmark performance from our band, not only did none of the band walk out, but people from the audience told us how much they enjoyed it. I think it may have been to do with people who actually like that kind of music being at the gig instead of people out for a quiet drink. Sadly, I think it may have been my last gig as part of Triplanetary and it goes in a new direction. I also really ejnjoyed the performance from Cutting Pink with Knives, though I thought the bass player was going to have my eye out.30 March - TRIPLANETARY plays The Bear, Deptford
Only 1 member of the band walked out, we must be improving. Another band consisting of drums, bass, electronics, flute and music box was also playing this night, but that was the only similarity between them and us.28 March- TRIPLANETARY plays The Social, Soho
We drove out the cocktail drinking crowd with our noisy jam. And 2 members of the band walked out too.27 March Monday- The Arctic Circle, Notting Hill Arts Club.
Giant Jenga and Connect Four, a big mix of different musics. There were some crazy sound problems which was a bit unnerving but I think I got away with it.10 March - Echo Sonores 24, Lyons, France. Organised by Nuits Sonores
Also playing were Grimo and Man from Uranus, both supercool dudes. I don't know who put my name forward for this, my first gig abroad! It was a beautiful beautiful place to play, in an old building with a huge glass wall looking out onto the river, multicoloured houses on the other side and lights glinting on the water. They dug me and I enjoyed playing with both fingers and toes.24 Feb - Scaledown Radio on RESONANCE FM
interview and live performance as well as clips from the Scaledown night I played in November. I got my flute out for this for the first time as a solo Ninki-ist, it was just an idea I had in the bath.19 February - secret gig.
16 February - TRIPLANETARY plays The Klinker, Nunhead
I am in a band. This was our first gig, some of us had never met before and we had no idea what we were going to play, it was cool.14 February - Cargo, London
You Are Hear (Resonance FM) live event - Stabs from the Electric Heart
"Ninki V creates a unique futurist music for lovestruck cosmonauts"
Cargo is a great place, and this was a night of really cool electronic music from Man from Uranus, Noblesse Oblige, Asja Auf Capri and Ninki V, with lovely lighting from Lightning Rod.27 January - Ordio Enjinn at The Offside Bar, Islington
Despite being in the no-mans land between Angel and Old Street, and despite being a sports bar, I quite liked this place. Nice sound system. Ordio Enjinn are doing good stuff, putting on interesting electronic nights and releasing records. An mp3 of the night will be available soon on their website.12 January - The Bear, Deptford
Gallery opening night with the Utrophia team. I really enjoyed this, my first gig of the year. I was loud and fired guns.22 December 2005 - HIT at Filthy McNasty's
Cool night with the fabulous HIT team. I was so mismatched with brat pack singer Mickey Fordola that it kinda worked. Some theremin newbies there who couldn't quite believe that such an instrument existed. Skellig shocked some with his theremin pole dancing. Rounded off the set with Last Christmas, the demo song on my keytar, but bizarred it up so much and so loud you'd hardly know. Got a review in the Times. I am officially if not slightly mad.15 December 2005 - The Vortex, Dalston. Playing harp with some excellent excellent musicians - Harvey Brough, Clara Sanabras, Natacha Atlas, Jocelyn Pook... And one solo theremin song. Harvey said 'Thank God for that!' after I played. How should I take that Harv?!
11 December 2005 - The Light Programme, The Lion, Stoke Newington
Cool night, lovely bands, lovely people, marionette clubbing is taking over North London.25 November 2005 - Scaledown
I love Scaledown.11 November 2005 - A Music Club, The Lord Napier, 25 Whitepost Lane E9. Dueting with Man from Uranus.
I've become so used to playing solo and being in control, and you don't get less in control than this gig. Ragnagrok were singing into a microphone over my slow sad theremin songs while I looked daggers at them, Man from Uranus and me trashed each others songs, I accidentally hit a drum game on my drum machine, casio beats fought against art music. It was mayhem.7 November 2005 - CRAFT, Notting Hill Arts Club
Everyone was eyes down making bead people (some of which were amazing) then I rocked the house. Someone told me they hadn't been this impressed for ages, someone else that it was the best gig they had ever been to. A mystery man gave me a cool film to score, so a good evening all in all. I joined the lovely Piney Gir onstage for a great spooky song.31 October 2005 (Halloween) - YOU ARE HEAR - live radio performance on RESONANCE FM
A podcast (mp3) will be available to download from YOU ARE HEAR soon. I played 5 songs, really enjoyable, went well. As it was radio I didn't do any high kicks (or did I?). Quite odd playing to a room of a few guys and knowing it was broadcast over London, and all over the world on the internet. All got caught on camera for possible inclusion in a documentary...28 October 2005 - Kernel Panic at the Temporary Contemporary Gallery
Very cool place to play, 3 thereminists in 1 room, bits of rope strung all over the place, I sang a new song with my new PT30 Casio which is a fab little keyboard, my chord progressions were somewhat progressive and it went down a treat.28 July 2005 - muLti vitAmins at Corsica Studios, Elephant and Castle
My cheesy casio number wasn't strictly cool enough for this nite, but I played it anyway and it all went down really well. Skellig danced to laptop music with some of my friends.16 July 2005 - Women Women Festival, Spitalfields Market
Oh this was a fun gig to do. I gave a theremin workshop, lots of friends were there, I played 2 new songs which I'd started writing 2 days before, Time Out called me the Theremin Queen and the entire Wired Women day was packed with amazing grrrrrrl bands. I love the Spitz. See photography section below.8 July 2005 - The Klinker, The Sussex pub, Dalston
Very last minute gig with Man from Uranus, Mark Pilkington, Adrian Bronson and Alistair S
I played concert harp and theremins, which was kind of surreal in a pub venue with a load of electronics and a man with a cabbage on his head playing the fiddle as a warm up act.18 June 2005 - Sonic Arts Network Expo 966, Vivaz, Scarborough
My first out of town gig and it was a glorious weekend of sun, sand and sonic installations. My set went down a storm, a couple of girls were even dancing. DANCING! I finally met the amazing Man From Uranus with his scary mask, wellies, theremining and squelchy songs about the moon.3 May 2005 - muLti vitAmins at The Pool, London
Not so busy this night, which is always a bit of a dampener. In fact I think there were just 3 in the audience. Tried to play heart out for them, but I tried too hard.1 May 2005 - The Light Programme, The Lion, Stoke Newington Church Street
This night is brill, lots of interesting non-mainstream live music, and feels like a party. And now I've moved local I'm going to check this night out regularly, its every first Sunday in the month I think. They even had a raffle and a friend won all the prizes.12 April 2005 - muLti vitAmins at The Pool, London
Chilled, spacious, slightly rough the edges neon lit bar. Great atmosphere even when its empty and in deepest Shoreditch where they're quite keen on the theremin.23 March 2005 - Hat on Wall, London
Cute little bar, hidden away in the back streets of Farringdon. With laptop artistes Mindlobster, J-Lab, Mission Creep. People kept walking past into my magic field though, which made it rather tricky to play in tune.22 December 2004 - The Spitz, London
This was the 4th monthly Wired Women night, which features women in electronic music, and also playing were The Cranes and K & A. It being practically Christmas Eve I played spooky versions of carols and flogged my Christmas EP. It rocked.12 December 2004 - Needles, London
This was a special Christmas party night, hosted by Grand Delinquents. A compilation free CD of all 6 bands playing was available on the night but they're all gone now.13 October 2004 - The Spitz, London
My first full set and first Spitz gig, and they're a lovely friendly lot there.1 July 2004 - Battersea Barge
This is a great place for a glass of wine and a spot of dinner. This was Piney Gir's launch party for her album. I joined Piney on stage for a few songs and performed a couple of solos too.6 May 2004 - Catch 22
This funny little place on Kingsland Road was home to my first solo Ninki gig. Shock horror I used a backing track for a couple of songs, and decided it was no fun, so now I only play live instruments. Keepin' it Real.
